Pocket book workshop

After stepping on my camera, during my daughter's birthday party, I was not be able to post anything that included pictures, until I bought a new one the other night. So, many weeks later, I'm posting about the last Letterpress and Bookbinding workshop I taught in collaboration with Shelley of Albertine Press, in the end of August. It was a new class, focusing on the accordion folds and the pocket book. Every student designed, hand-set and letterpress printed some cards that were then inserted in a limited edition book, as shown in the pictures. It was a great, end of summer class! we will offer it again in late October, if you are interested, just let us know!

The following picture, courtesy of Shelley, shows all the books we made during the class. More info on future classes and how to apply, can be found on her website.

Small Square Design

Basak of Small Square design, just sent me these pictures of her new packaging using the loose weave cotton ribbons. It's a lunch bag pack that contains onesie and hats. Basak was one of my favorite encounters at the Stationery Show and I love her design and letterpress printing of greeting cards and gift tags. Her shop also has many lovely pictures!

If I was in Rome....

A store of Vintage Kimono in Rome, that I visited during my last trip, sent me this invitation for an exhibition at the Auditorium, opening date September 24th.

Susy Pilgrim Waters at Stel's

Sorry for not posting this any sooner. I'm still catching up on the new studio and new orders. I will go today at the opening of this show by my dear friend Susy, where she will also be selling a line of unique limited edition dresses, t- shirts, recycled cotton canvas bags purses. New paintings have been created especially for the Stel's show, which she showed to me during the last visit to her studio. I know for sure they are very impressive and beautiful! I like what Stel's wrote about her work: Susy is an illustrator, designer and painter who's work is used extensively in print advertising, book and magazine publishing, and commercial licensing. Her signature style combines color, shapes, and wit, for vibrant evocative results. Her clients include, Travel &Leisure, Chronicle Books, The Boston Globe,TIAFF/CREF, Roaring Brook press, Gourmet Magazine, among many others. Locally, Susy designed Iggys Bread identity & logo, and logos for Nomad, Henrietta's Table and Sweet Basil. She also worked closely with restaurant owner Siobhan Carew for the paintings at Pomodoro and Matt Murphy`s in Brookline village.

From Rebecca Thuss

Yesterday I received this photograph of the beautiful application of cotton ribbons, by Rebecca Thuss. It is the opening page of her styling portfolio. Everything by Rebecca Thuss is simply amazing.
The following is an extract from the interview to Rebecca Thuss done by the Bride Cafe`: "Rebecca is an award winning photo stylist, creative director, wedding designer and crafter. During her tenure with Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia (1996 - 2006) Rebecca became Style Director in 2003 for Martha Stewart Weddings magazine and she was the Editor and Style Director of the premiere issue of Blueprint magazine.
Currently, Rebecca and her husband Patrick are partners in the photography and graphic design firm...ThussFarrell. I am excited to share with you that ThussFarrell will launch a letterpress wedding invitation line in the Spring of 2009 AND they are working on the launch of their new blog.
She was very kind to mention carta, inc. in the interview regarding her "absolute favorite Italian cotton ribbons".

I look very forward to the launch of her new blog!
