Country Living

I received my copy of the latest Country Living, where the cotton ribbons are feature on page 22, as a way of personalize the holidays gift. They used the sea blue and navy loose weave ribbons. I also found so many paper items along the magazine, from companies I saw at the Stationary Show. Nice to see them all featured in several pages of the magazine!

New for the holidays

A new set of flat cards printed in letterpress on Italian Medioevalis paper, with lined envelopes, new in the shop! letterpress printed on a vandercook in the studio of Albertine Press.

Japanese binding latest workshop

Yesterday was my last workshop about Japanese binding at Paper Source, Boston. For the new year, I would like to design and teach something new, which I'm already working on it with some beautiful Paper Source paper and text block. More news to come!

Last weekend event

The trunk show, organized by the Boston Design Salon, was a great opportunity to connect with other Boston women designers, various old and new customers and see some beautiful hand-made things from this newly formed community. Before starting a new week and getting lost with more work, blogging and family related commitment, I would like to post about some beautiful, clean and gentle work by Jill Bent, whom was my favorite encounter of the past show. All photography are by Jill and they perfectly reflect her simple, yet sophisticated sense of aesthetic. More here on her blog and I also enjoyed to read and see more in her summer home.

Studio Sale at Susy Pilgrim Waters

I look very forward to be part of the studio sale at Susy's. Together with other artists, the sale will take place at Susy's lovely home and studio on December 11th, at 11 Eden Avenue, West Newton, MA, from 6 to 9 in the evening. Last year turn out to be one of my favorite event, not to be missed!

At the American Academy in Rome.....

Within the 45th Music Festival of Nuova Consonanza, at the American Academy of Rome, Silvana Amato is curating an exhibition of small, independent presses for one evening only, on Sunday, November 16th, from 5 to 8:30. Limited edition books by Edizioni Almenodue, along with several Italian artist books, will be on view on the second floor of the American Academy, in Villa Aurelia, Rome. Villa Aurelia is a magnificent building from the 17th century, with eleven acres of gardens atop the Janiculum, the highest hill within the walls of Rome. We had the fortune to be part of the same event in the past and here below is one picture from 2006, with all the artist books on view. Hopefully my friend Silvana will decide to have her own website soon and will take some good pictures of the event this Sunday!

Announcing Bari Zaki's studio sale...

My dearest friend Bari is having the Eight Annual Holiday Sale in Chicago, on Saturday, December 6th from 12 to 6 and Sunday, December 7th from 12 to 4. Her studio is located on 2119 West Roscoe, 1 1/2 blocks west of Damen, in a beautiful area of Chicago. A wide selection of hand-bound photo albums and books, vintage address labels, calligraphy, storage and keepsake boxes, holidays cards and always something new and surprising will be available. 100% Italian invitations

Recently, I designed a set of wedding invitation for a couple that owns a winery here in the US and that is getting married in Firenze, Italy, this fall. The text of the invitation is all in Italian. We used Italian paper Medioevalis by Fabriano, Italian illustrator Rita Ravaioli for the image, extracted from one of the limited edition book, two colors printing - rich wine and dark grey and letterpress printing by Albertine Press.
I was not be able to take some good pictures of the invitations, but I find the illustration quite lovely and perfect for the event!

My brother just came back from a trip to Rajasthan, India and sent me this photo I thought I'd like to share. What an unbelievable place!

During the Annual Open Studios in Florence, Massachusetts, at the Arts and Industry Building, more than 50 artists, craftspeople, and creative small businesses open their studios to the public. At the studio of Kat Ran Press, a selection of lovely items from the shop Pod will be for sale! Saturday and Sunday, November 8th and 9th, from 10 to 5.

Boston Design Salon Holiday Sale

Everybody is invited to the Design Salon's First Annual Holiday Sale on Saturday, November 15th from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
At Kingsley Montessori School, 26 Exeter Street, Boston, in a beautiful downtown location between Newbury Street and Commonwealth Avenue. A lot of different work created by local women designers: home accessories, pottery, stationery, children's clothing, jewelry, prints, rugs and pillows and even more to see.

Etsy find

Lovely find at Etsy this morning, a Type pin cushion by Designs Maya Made . The linen fabric with the red thread spool make a perfect settings!

Interview with Squam Art Workshop

It was a real pleasure meeting and having the interview with Elisabeth, director of the Squam Art Workshop, last summer. The interview is posted in the Artist of the Week section, and you can see more pictures of this wonderful place in New Hampshire, at this link. Squam Art Workshop is organized only once a year in September, for an intensive week of classes. Instructors and students come from different parts of the US to join in this amazing experience. We are planning to teach a book arts workshop next summer and more information will be posted when time comes. Meanwhile, I also enjoyed to read more about Squam at Design Sponge, last September.

DeCordova Museum workshop

This Saturday at the Museum I had a full class of ten students! I offered the same class last winter. In one day students made three books, an hard-cover concertina book structure with six pamphlet stitch signatures, an hard-cover pocket book and a dynamic book structure that folds and unfolds as petals of flower. Some students even made it to complete one or two extra miniature accordion books! the day was sunny and the sculpture park was even more impressive with the autumn New England colors. Details below of the workshop and of the historical building with studio 6, where I usually teach my workshop. I love that space!
