Almost end of summer

As I feel summer is coming almost to the end, I don't want to forget this magical moment in Perugia, which seems already so far away. I took this quick photo, while the street was empty and behind us a street musician was playing Amelie with an accordion. Everything was so perfect.....

Les Fifoles

I spend all of this week working on a pretty large order of books for a store in nyc, and spent a lot of free time looking at many blogs that came my way. So many beautiful things.....and I was particularly impressed by this Swiss photographer, found on CafeCartolina, with many serene photos on her blog. And I do love white!

Passing through Lena Corwin's blog, I discovered the amazing work by Tamar Morgendorff. Such a simplicity of materials and I love the visible stitching!

"Hands are to make things"

Our Letterpress and Bookbinding workshop No. 7 was on last weekend for two intensive days of designing, printing and binding within a nice group of seven people. The result was a limited edition book, hand bound in sewing on tapes, printed in two colors, Marigold and Navy blue. This time I even had the chance to hand set a wood type background, found in the Shelley's type collection and a small sentence printed in darker color. Some inspirations came from a children book by Ruth Krauss, with illustrations by Maurice Sendak:"A First book of first definitions". We had a lovely time working together and keeping our energy up with some delicious Finnish chocolate.
Shelley and I are designing a new workshop to offer in the fall using a great, new book structure and large wood type. Something we need to create more in details, but stay in touch for any update. This past summer class was an inspiring experience, thank you everyone for coming!

OldYarns. Reclaimed Linens

These images from OldYarns have some warm familiarity, that brings me back to childhood . Loving her style of photography and composition, I also enjoyed her piece about the use of baker twine. Something it is certainly very close to me!

Cotton Ribbons Sampler

New in my shop, some little rolls of 1 yard cotton ribbons, packaged together in a clear bag. 20 colors available in an assortment of loose and tight weave, for a total of 20 yards ribbons. A nice way to try different colors and texture in one order. No two Sampler are alike!

A few days in Nantucket

It is so gray today, I like to indulge in some beautiful memories of a few days in the island of Nantucket, from only a week ago. Being away with my children and friends was great and taking another trip this summer, was the last luxury I need it to do. With no excuses, I'm back to work and ready for the Letterpress and Bookbinding workshop at Albertine Press. One spot is still available, if someone is interested. I look forward to meeting our new students, one especially coming all the way from Finland to take this class!

Amy Atlas Events

A nice welcome back surprise was the posting of cotton ribbons on Amy Atlas's lovely blog. A New York City based event designer, that also creates distinct dessert buffets with a an amazing sense of style. The ribbon rolls look quite lovely on her blog as everything else I have seen there. Thank you Amy!

Roma estate 2009

I'm back home after many weeks away. Kind of confusing at the moment where my home really is, as Roma is clearly where I belong. So many pictures and memories to sort out, I hope these few images give the idea of an ever lasting blue sky, yellow/pink/orange buildings and beautiful architecture, sunny and hot summer days.
Feeling certainly better than when I left and lucky to be back to my work and studio. And summer is fortunately not over yet!
