Rachel Hazell artist books

Today I'm really thinking about hand-made books, as I woke up finding an order of our limited edition books from the Special Collection Library of the George Mason University in Virginia. A happy news indeed, something it doesn't happen everyday!
In my inbox, I also received a newsletter from Rachel Hazell in UK, reminding me of her amazing artist books, with her traveling to Antarctica teaching book arts! There is a lot to see and read on her website, what an inspiration!

Wow, beautiful! I am just getting into book binding and wondering if you recommend a book for someone who lives far from in-person classes. Is there a best book for learning about bookbinding? Thanks!

Wow Linda, you moved from LA to Italy, it sounds a beautiful decision.
Some books I always suggest to my students are:"
Making books by hand" by Peter and Donna Thomas
and "Bookworks" by Sue Doggett. Both are very well written, with simple instructions and illustrations. There is a lot that you can learn from those books, but there are also a lot more available in the market.
I hope this can help. Good luck with your bookmaking and keep in touch.

Hi Angela! My name's Meaghan and I work for GMU. I placed the orders on behalf of our fine arts librarian, who is adding a number of artist books to Special Collections for accreditation purposes! I'm a crafter and love your work...it was exciting to see your name on my day job's desk. Looking forward to seeing everything in Special Collections soon. :-)

Thank you Meaghan for your interest in my work and our limited edition books. I'm flattered that our full collection has been acquired from your university library. It is a real honor. I have been working on your order today and be ready for shipping this week. Thank you!
