189 libri

Today is last day of a one week long exhibition, seminars and workshops 189 Libri, organized by Silvana Amato at the Biblioteca Angelica in Rome. All our limited editions and calendarbooks by Edizioni Almenodue were on view during the exhibition, along with several other work by Silvana's students from Universita` La Sapienza di Roma and her personal research around the theme of the design and making of the book. I'm very excited our collaborative work is part of the exhibition, but missing terribly to be there and listening the seminars! Some of the images below were taken during the hand-papermaking workshop "Diventare mastro cartaio" by Fabriano and the seminar "Autoritratto allo specchio" by Guido Scarabottolo. They all must have been incredibly interesting! The photography is by Alessio Macri` and more can be seen on the 189 Libri Tumblr page. Enjoy!

DIY: Accordion Book Keepsake on Remodelista

It's the first day back to my studio after the NYIGF and being in NYC! Lots to do to catch up on orders and new ideas, but I don't want to miss the opportunity to show you some photos by Justine Hand of our Accordion Book project, featured on Remodelista. It was a pleasure working with Justine once again and the accordion book project inspired me to design and make more books in the new year. I hope it will be the same for you! Also, save the date for Saturday, February 9th. We will have a Valentine/Calendarbook giveaway in our studio, more details to follow and we will love to see you!

Flying books

Sorry for the lack of posting. It has been a busy week, productive and a bit tiring, but I like to see the pile of work that has been completed. These hand-bound books are one example. I have a great help at the studio now, that makes the all difference in production. You might remember Hillary from this post, that now comes a few hours a week before going to class. We work while listening to BBC News and a lot gets done in a day. Happy, relaxing weekend everyone and see you soon!

Making books

A lot of bookbinding in a day for the university library order that is going to be shipped by this week. I was happy I had a change of having some pictures of the process, to share. It is the making of three books in different steps, with a little view of my studio, with a present of Bookhou on the wall. It is sunny today and I need a little break!but first I need to thank Simple Song for the lovely post. It was a big surprise to find during my daily reads.

Un-Limited portfolio

I went to Julia Talcott'studio to pick up my copy of the Un-Limited Portfolio. I worked on the design and binding of the portfolio last fall, and I feel so fortunate to have now a collection of beautiful fifteen prints. Julia's studio was large and organized. Unfortunately I went there with Susy in the late afternoon and there were no natural light for pictures. There were prints and work in progress spread out everywhere in the studio and I love the inspiration walls!

Un-Limited

I have been fortunate to work on the design and binding of fifteen portfolios with a limited edition of 15 prints by a very talented group of six artists. Each of them producing one to three images for the suite, hosted at Julia Talcott's studio and under her supervision of the entire project. The result is a beautiful set of prints, different in style and technique, consistent by the dimensions, the paper and the use of the same two colors, red and blue. Leo Espinosa, first involved in the project, had the desire to not be limited by a theme and gather the edition with the title (Un)Limited. The following is the list of artists that contributed to the edition:
Julia Talcott, Alan Witschonke, Susy Pilgrim-Waters, Annie Silverman, Annie Bissett
and Rob Dunlavey.
I'm sewing the portfolios with Indigo Cave Paper, red linen thread and cotton ribbons closure. The prints are protected and wrapped in Japanese kozo paper. This project started months ago, during the cold months of winter and it has been an honor to work now on the final step, after a long and evolving plan.
Rob Dunlavey made available a comprehensive set of photos of the work in progress, from which the last two pictures on this post come from.
